Support for Families

Do you struggle with behavioral interventions with young children? Ever wonder what to do when your child or teen acts out/has a temper tantrum in the middle of Wal-Mart? Would you like to learn how to have a better more healthy relationship with the children in your life? Here you will learn simple behavioral modification tools to use common occurrences. You will have the opportunity to role play various difficult situations. You will learn how to modify these tools to work with older children and to help children that have experienced trauma. Dance/Movement Therapy is a form of authentic communication based in the belief that the body, mind and sprit are all interconnected. It involves a direct expression and experience of oneself through the body allowing feelings to be expressed through action. Drama therapy helps the client tell his or her story to solve a problem, achieve a catharsis, extend the depth and breadth of inner experience, understand the meaning of images, and strengthen the ability to observe personal roles while increasing flexibility between roles. Processes and techniques may include improvisation, theater games, storytelling, and enactment. Theoretical foundations include; dance, theater, psychology, psychotherapy, anthropology, play, and creative processes.

These groups will allow for creative expression and release of daily stress especially that relating to being in college. Participates will gain tools to use to cope with change and daily life while having fun.

Groups are open to students of all ages and discipline. We will use movement and drama but no dance or theater experience is necessary. Come in comfortable clothing and be prepared to move around.

DAILY RECOVERY: This monthly group will use dance and drama therapy to help individuals (men and women) get in touch with them selves emotionally, physically, cognitively and spiritually. It will focus on the relationships we have with others and with ourselves. This group will help people experiencing stress, recovering from addiction, trauma and/or depression as well as those wanting to have a better integration of mind body and sprit.

(Themes will change each month based upon the groups needs)

Themes will explore:

Relapse prevention      self esteem          depression

Anxiety/coping with change                   body work

Developing healthy relationships and positive communication

Spiritually and having gratitude in life.
